The story of On-Point Volunteers

It was 18 months ago that On-Point Volunteers Association began. A small group of us were volunteering on a beautiful day with some of us meeting for the first time. Of course at that time we didn’t know we would call ourselves On-Point Volunteers Association; we just knew we wanted to volunteer together more, invite others to join us, support many different types of events for as many non-profit organizations that could benefit from our skills, and foster the intrinsic reward that comes from giving back to community. I was amazed at the enthusiasm that day to be outside on a crisp April morning, to do anything and everything the Race Director asked of us. And I continue to be amazed in all of the ways our diverse group of volunteers contribute.

What started as an idea that day has become a registered non-profit organization with a mission and a vision and a strategic plan to grow and provide meaningful volunteer opportunities to more and more like-minded individuals, not just in Halifax Regional Municipality, but in every community.

In the last year our volunteer membership has grown from 10 founding members to 150 members representing 15 countries around the world.

So far we are partnered with 17 organizations and have contributed in 25 different ways; cooking supper, registering event guests, serving the homeless and near homeless, collecting donations in almost every place imaginable. We have kept runners on course, cheered and high-fived at their finish. We have raked sand in a long jump pit and replaced the bar as track athletes leapt to new heights. We are joining planning committees and contributing as directors on governing boards. We are On-Point and we have so much more to do in 2017. Just you wait and see. Better yet…why don’t you join us?
